01

Silver Spring moves, planned around access.

Silver Spring has some of the most varied housing in Montgomery County, and each type moves differently. Downtown, around Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue, most moves are in elevator buildings with loading docks and booked time slots. A few blocks out, in Woodside, Sligo Park Hills and Four Corners, you get older single-family homes with steep stairs, narrow doorways and finished basements.

We plan each Silver Spring move around that access. For a high-rise, it’s the elevator window and the walk from the dock. For an older house, it’s which pieces need to come apart to make the turn on the stairs, and where the truck can park on a residential street.

Our crews are full-time MVD employees, not day labor. Pads, shrink-wrap and furniture disassembly/reassembly are included in every job, and if you are moving across the line into Takoma Park or DC, we handle that as a normal local move.

How you pay

What a Silver Spring move costs

An hourly rate for a 2- or 3-mover crew, plus a one-time 1-hour arrival fee for the truck and the drive to you and back to our office. No fuel or stair fees.

Example

A 2-mover crew works 4 hours from arrival to the end of unloading. You pay 4 hours of crew time + the 1-hour arrival fee = 5 billable hours at your crew’s hourly rate.

Because the total depends on the time actually worked, we don’t give fixed prices in advance. What we do give you up front is the hourly rate for your crew, so you can plan.

How our pricing works

Hourly crew rate

You choose a 2-mover or a 3-mover crew. Each has its own hourly rate, and you only pay for the time the crew actually works.

1-hour arrival fee

One hour added once per move. It covers the truck and the crew’s drive from our office to your Silver Spring address and back to the office afterwards.

Total after unloading

The clock starts when the crew arrives at your job and stops when the last item is unloaded. That’s when your total is calculated — together, on the spot.

No add-on fees

No fuel surcharges and no stair fees. Pads, shrink-wrap and furniture disassembly are part of the job.

Local know-how

What to know before moving in Silver Spring

Downtown high-rises

Buildings near the Silver Spring Metro usually require a reserved elevator, a set move window and sometimes a certificate of insurance. Share the details when you book so the crew arrives at the start of your window.

Older homes & basements

Many homes in Woodside, Four Corners and Forest Glen were built in the 1940s–50s with narrow stairs. Large sectionals or box springs may need to come apart — tell us about them ahead of time.

Street parking

On narrow residential streets, the truck needs a spot close to your door. Ask a neighbor to leave the curb open in front of your house, or move cars into the driveway the night before.

Road work & routing

Construction around downtown Silver Spring and the Purple Line corridor can change routes from week to week. We check the route before the move so the truck doesn’t get stuck.

Moving into DC?

If your new home is in the District, a reserved curb spot usually means requesting temporary no-parking signs from DDOT in advance. Do that as early as possible — it can take several days.

Pick the right day

Weekday mornings and mid-month dates are the easiest to schedule and usually mean less traffic on Colesville Road, Georgia Avenue and the Beltway.

Apartment or house — which crew do you need?

A downtown Silver Spring studio and a four-bedroom colonial in Colesville are completely different jobs. Here’s how we usually size the crew:

2-bedroom apartment or small house2 or 3 moversWalk-ups and basements usually call for 3 movers.
